“We don’t just teach the notes, we teach what is in between the notes.”

THE MISSION :

Electric Moon Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization based out of Los Angeles, Ca. ELECTRIC MOON Foundation is an innovative music education and youth development program, which serves diverse youth in marginalized neighborhoods in Los Angeles, California. We are passionate and dedicated to sharing the healing energy of Music & Art and to ensure that it reaches our most vulnerable youth. Our primary work consists of providing progressive and unique music and art programs, instruments, low-cost classes, mentoring, anti bullying programs, performances and trauma related therapies using the arts as a form of healing.

THE VISION :

Music & the Arts are a universal language we all can understand and benefit from.  Here at Electric Moon Foundation we are passionate about ensuring that all receive the Gift of Music & the Arts.  Our Music Programs are unique and innovative and our youth are taught to apply what they learn in music sessions instantly by forming and naming their own bands, creating their own bands logo and writing songs with the message of encouragement, diversity and empowerment.  Now more than ever the benefits of Music & Art are needed, and now more than ever we see music programs being discontinued or underfunded.  Music education can teach vital problem solving skills, creative thinking skills and how to collaborate with others useful in today's workplace and beyond.

HOW YOU CAN HELP :

We are always looking for volunteers to assist at events and fundraisers, volunteer during our music programs, social media assistance or to simply help spread the word. Your generous donation can help offset the cost of music lessons, the purchase of instruments and help with the cost of performances and music instructors for our EMF After School Music Programs.

THE BENEFITS OF MUSIC EDUCATION :

As public schools have increasingly focused on STEM curriculums, as well as the needed social science basics, the arts have become detrimentally underfunded. Without programs like Electric Moon Foundation, many of the youth in the neighborhoods we serve would not have access to music education and exposure to the arts. Research provides strong evidence for the positive impact that arts and culture programs can have on youth development, academic achievement, and overall well-being. For instance, a 2020 study published in the Journal of Adolescent Health found that participating in arts and culture programs can have a positive impact on the mental health and wellbeing of marginalized youth. The study found that youth who participated in arts and culture programs reported higher levels of resilience, self-esteem, and social support compared to those who did not participate. Furthermore, a 2019 study published in the Journal of Research on Adolescence found that youth who participate in arts and culture programs are more likely to report positive relationships with their peers, as well as a greater sense of belonging in their communities. Our programs mentor a youth population that is marginalized and often overlooked, and which is in critical need of guiding hands that improve individual psychological and social experiences, and fosters resilience. Our experienced, committed working musicians are in the perfect position to teach and guide program youth.

  • "EMF's dedication to providing music and art education to vulnerable youth is inspiring and transformative. Their programs have a heartwarming impact on these young minds, empowering them through self-expression and creativity in ways that traditional education often cannot. EMF's commitment to bringing these enriching experiences to underserved communities is commendable and something we take great pride in working with."

  • "The Guitar Center Music Foundation is so pleased to partner with Electric Moon Foundation on their work teaching young people to create and express themselves through music. Upon speaking with Brent the first time, you could feel the passion and empathy he has for the community. He also brings experience in music, nonprofit, and producing. I will always support him as long and as much as I can."

  • "Hi Brent, I am writing to you to say THANK YOU!!! I would like to describe my testimonial of how we became part of Casa Alexandria and eventually part of Electric Moon Foundation. About 3 years ago my dad used to be the property manager from right next door to Alexandria House, but unfortunately he passed away. I took over my dad's job because I had to support my mom during the transition. We were really depressed and I started going to Casa Alexandria, and they told me about the after school program (the school program is for the kids that belong to the alexandra house and the community). After a couple months my daughter Arianna was part of Alexandria House and the after school program. She loved it!! Within that time Alexandria House offered music classes to the after school program and my daughter was extremely happy!! OMG your classes brought so much happiness to my daughter and my family, she wanted to attend all of your musical classes, you built so much confidence into this little human, my daughter!!! About 3 months ago, I received a message from you telling me that you had a violin for my daughter, we went to pick it up and she has been practicing every day!! Thank you Brent for making the kids' lives you work with even brighter, we are so grateful to you!!! You are a beautiful human with so much talent!!! Thank you Electric Moon Foundation and Casa Alexandria."

  • Dear Brent, Thank you for the guitar and of course, my Bass. Playing either guitar or bass has always been a dream of mine so really, thank you :) You've opened up a new experience for me. I learned to express myself through music and how to have a voice. Your encouragement has pushed me to strive for more so please continue to give others the same opportunity. You're doing a great job...

  • Brent and the Electric Moon Foundation were first introduced to us through the Guitar Center Foundation and he has been an incredible community partner. We are deeply grateful for the impact Electric Moon Foundation has made on our teenage students through their arts and culture enrichment programs. Brent’s work with us at Monday with the Mission, helping those experiencing homelessness, has brought invaluable lessons in songwriting, self-expression, and music. His positive energy and mentorship have deeply inspired our students, providing them with both career and life skills. Brent has a remarkable ability to connect with kids, guiding them in discovering their voices and potential. His presence has been transformative for our students, and we are so thankful for the lasting positive influence he and his foundation have brought to our program.
